01 Apr A Pile of wood never stays a pile for long!!
Its always a satisfying day of production when an order of wood arrives!! I buy my wood from Russel and Chapel in London and their make is of such a high quality there is nothing more enjoyable than fitting the frames together.
After I’ve assembled the frames its an important process for me to then stretch the canvas myself. I use either a 12 ounce or 15 ounce cotton duck canvas which is a really good weight to withstand the heavy layering of my materials. Once stretched the canvas makes the satisfying sound of a drum…or could even be mistaken for thunder!!
And finally…of course a healthy stock of all sorts of mixed media paints are essential. I hand pick the majority of my materials because each colour and each brand have different qualities and reactions and everyday I learn something new or indeed find a new paint to experiment with.
